tripod heads for canon 500 4.5is?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am trying to decide just what to go for as I really want decent stability,I do expect to use a 1.4x conv regularly and 2x from time to time. I have looked at the manfrotto 229 3d pro head (UK codes) which seems pretty good and has plenty to spare with 12kg weight limit. I am interested to get opinions on any other choices, like the manfrotto video heads 116mk3/10kg or the 501/6kg, any other suggestions? I am planning to buy a Gitzo 1325 CF tripod by the way, but would like to keep the budget down as much as possible without risking the loss of stability.

The Manfrotto 229 head is a very stable and prcision head. But very expensive, too. I use a Manfrotto 055pro tripod with 329 head which works very well with my 1n HS and 2.8/300L. This combination will save you some móney and is stable enough for the 4.5/500L IS.
