EOS 500N - Self takew photography

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have just aquired an EOS. A friend has told me I can make an electric remote release from some simple components.

However, part of this involves a jack-plug.

My question is,would the plug fit straight into the side of the body ?

Under a removable plastic cover, the EOS 500N has a 2.5mm "stereo" socket that accepts the Canon RS-60E3 remote release.

While it is possible to construct your own remote release from electronic parts (e.g. http://www.dsp.com/chantal/ remoteControl.htm ), there was a report on the Elan 7E group about the tip of a 2.5mm plug breaking off inside the camera! The camera had to be dismantled and the entire remote socket assembly replaced!< P> You can follow your friend's instructions on making your own remote release, but will your fried fix a broken camera? Besides, it is unlikely that you will be able to make one as small and as functional as the original Canon part (with Canon warrantee).< P> Cheers
