CEU's & correspondence courses

greenspun.com : LUSENET : AMTNSW : One Thread

I have just received my December copy of 'In Good Hands', and noticed an ad for becomming a certified infant massage instructor. I looked at their web site, and one can do it by correspondence - great for those of us who live in isolated rural communities.

Do courses such as this one give us CEU points?, and has anyone done any other correspondence massage courses that they could recommend?

Hello Fiona

Its great to see to see people are reading the Newsletter!! All educational courses will give you CEU. Maximum CEU are gained from an accredited course (5CEU per hour studied)- and you will have to check with Head Office if this one is accredited. Non-accredited courses are valued at 4CEU per three hours studied.

If the course is not accredited your best option is to lean on them to become accredited before you do the course or at least get them to talk to/send information to Head Office so that we can judge the nominal hour value of the course.

Geof Naughton informed me that, at the time the newsletter went to print, AMT accreditation of this course was pending. In other words, the organisation which runs the course has set the wheels in motion to become an AMT-accredited provider.

It's certainly worth checking at Head Office to see if the accreditation has gone through now.

Doubly glad to hear that someone is reading the newsletter ...!!

Cheers,

Rebecca

Of course Diana - it keeps me in touch with the 'outside world'! (Oh how I miss the opportunities in Sydney!!). Hey I hope the 'Desperately seeking a remedial massage' articles keep coming.

I actually felt very guilty that I hadn't sent in my CEU questionnaire. Not much of a response was it? Oh well, I promise I'll do it next time ;-)

Speaking of which, has anyone out there in 'cyberspace' completed any correspondence studies from schools that AMT give CEU's for, that they would recommend?

I have been pleased with the courses and cost from the Hemme Approach. They are in Florida and are accredited CEU courses for massage therapists. Just go to www.hemmeapproach.com to see their course list and prices. Although I know for a fact that they qualify for Florida CEU's I'm pretty sure they are also good for other states. I'd double check this with them, though. They also have the AIDS, Ethics, etc courses. Hope this helps.
