Infra Red and Dev Tanksgreenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread |
Hi there, Is it safe to development infra red films in a plastic small tank, or should a metal tank be used. I have heard reports that plastic tanks will render the film cloudy.Any advice appreciated,
Thanks, Gary.

The Paterson brand of tanks are completely safe (I've put hundreds of rolls of HIE through them). Most plastics are safe but you may do a test roll first!

It really depends on the plastic involved, and testing is the easiest way to find out.

It is absolutely no problem to develop IR films in plastic tanks. I never had any problems and I use different plastik tanks

Gary, I agree there is no problem using a plastic tank. HOWEVER, about a year ago I put IR film in a plastic tank and let it sit around for a few days before development - something I do frequently with regular b&w film. WOW, my IR film was ruined and it looked to me like it received additional 'exposure' in the tank.chris
