A holiday Warning

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

My husband is a Child and Family therapist-though he deals mostly with Jr.High, High school kids. There are two times in the year that he dreads coming-the final weeks of the school semesters-right before Christmas, and again in May. He says that most violence in schools happens during these times when kids are really stressed out-you may recall that police uncovered a bombing plot just a week ago at a school in the Northeast. He urges everyone to be more aware of signs of stress or depression in your loved ones-he works mostly with kids, but he says the holidays are rough on everyone.

In a city near our state, there has been a rash of teen suicides. I remember very well now difficult it was to deal with life as a teen. It saddens me so much though, that these children will not live out the life God planned for them. And, there families and friends must be devastated. Teenagers become very good at hiding their feelings because they are so vulnerable. They have no scar tissue to portect those delicate emotions. Take time out for those so-called tough kids. Hug them and let them know that there is no subject they can't come to you with.
