How does the EOS300 or EOS500N compare with the EOS30?

Hi

Thanks for the replies, but could someone please tell if i could pick up the EOS300 or EOS500N instead of the EOS30, how is the difference between these in terms of performance, since i would be using it, as i mentioned primarily for bird-life photography, which will include quiet a bit of low-light, and fast action situations, and will the same EF 28-105 3.5-4.5 USM lens be good for the others too.

thanks kp

The 28-105 USM will work well with any Canon EOS camera. Basically, with Canon's model numbering scheme, the lower the number the better the camera. The 500N and 50e are the older models that have 3 autofocus points as compared to the 300 and 30 wich have 7 AF points. The AF will be slower with the 300 and 500N. The 50e is faster, but the 30 is faster yet. The 30 and 50e offer eye controled focus point selection and the 30 does it considerably faster. Both the 30 and 50e offer more features and easier/faster control.

For bird photography most people want long, large aperture lenses, like a 400 or 600mm. I don't think you will get many interesting pictures with the shorter lens unless you can get very close, but the prices of the good longer lenses are expensive. As a compromise, you might want to consider getting a Canon 100-300mm USM to go with the 28-105 USM. They make a good matched pair.
