i currently have the canon 28-135IS and 80-200mmUSM 4.5-5.6 eos lenses. i really want to replace the 80-200 because it is a pos. i am wondering if i should get the 100-300 4.5-5.6 USM (heard good things like it has ring-usm), 70-300IS 4.5-5.6 (no ring-usm but has IS), or 70-200 f/4L (really good reviews!). i like the 70-200. i want a good piece of glass but i am concerned about the massive overlap between the 28-135 and 70-200 should i decide to buy it. all opinions are welcome.

p.s. i will be using this lens primarily for sports and some nature.

Take a look at the 100-400 4.5-5.6 USM L "IS". It's more pricey than the lens you mentioned, however, it's performance, especially with fast sports, is nothing short of amazing. You'll get loads of usable hand- held 400mm shots. Image quality beats Nikon in my opinion.

I own the 70-300IS, the 4/70-200L and the 28-135IS. The 70-300 was waste of money because I never use it. It's slow and not very sharp especially at 300. The lens I use most is the 4/70-200 and in combination with the 1.4 extender you get an 5.6/98-280 which is still faster in autofocus and much more sharp than the 70-300. Don't worry about the overlap because the picture quality of the 70-200 is better than the 28-135IS.
