where to find old fashioned straw hat

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Help, Christmas is coming and my Mom wants an old fashioned wide brimmed straw hat with the "green" insert visor in front. I have scoured the stores, and now am looking through the internet and can't find one. She got her original one from her Mom and last summer the wind blew it off her head while she was cutting grass and she accidently ran over it.

That is all she has talked about wanting for Christmas as she has most everything. I have typed in the words "straw hat" and gardening but I keep getting these panamanian hats or chinese straw hats! I am sure someone out there knows the magic website that would have that type of hat.

Thanks in advance,

Garden supplies? Produce merchant? Even hardware store. Do you have any milleners listed in your yellow pages? Might have to make it a rain-check, or a gift certificate. Sort of thing they might get in for spring and summer, but be out-of-stock now. Might need to ask not just "do you have?" but "do you ever stock?".

Stan.......she doesn't want one with holes in the brim:~D! I thought that I had seen them in Worm's way catalogue. They have a web site on the internet. Also might check "For The Farm.com" I know that I have seen them, just don't know where.

Cindy, I found one here is the site http://members.aol.com/mporder1/

Go to the bottom of the page and click on "order form", go to the bottom of the "order form" page and click on "Hats" the item number is HT0308. Their telephone number is onthe fist page you might want to call them to see if it is the right one. I wish my Mom wanted a Hat like that for Christmas it is only $3.95! Good Luck!!!

A few years back I purchased a very, very nice straw garden hat from Real Goods company. www.realgoods.com They have some really great ideas and items to look at and great for homesteading ideas. I just wear this hat everywhere in the summer...bigger than the Amish style hats. Good Luck

Well I am found the hat Mark in Fla said to look for. I am just wondering if it will hold up at $3.95. I looked a Lehmanns and Worms Way and no hats. I also have looked at just about every hatter's shop in the good old USA and have found a ton of plain straw hats - dang she would want one with a green visor in front! But the funniest thing I found is that if you type in "gardening clothes" at Yahoo.com, you will find out that folks are dressing up their flamingos in their yards. How about that for having a lot of cash? I just about died laughing reading about buying clothes for a bunch of plastic flamingos. Thanks again, you have been great as usual. I am going to call the place Mark found on Monday and see what they have to say about the quality of their straw hat.

Have a great weekend!

Your county farmers co-op will probably stock them.
