So, what kind of car do you drive?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Anarchy Again : One Thread

I very biased in my choice of automobiles. At heart, I'm an Oldsmobile man, but the man shut Olds down. What I really want is a 1972 Olds 98, made back when cars were HUGE and had high-compression engines. I'm also partial to Internationals (IHC). Currently, I'm driving a 1975 Chevelle. I will not drive anything newer than I am. Damn emmisions cntrols. I really don't have to worry about that much here in OK though, no vehical inspections anymore. None since August. Ah, the end of Facism. It's a conspiracy. Emmisions controls make the engine run less efficient, require lower compressions. BAD! Burns more gas. More money for oilmen. They used to have leaded gas to stabalize the feul in high compr. engines. But it cloggs the cat. conv. I remember seeing leaded gas at the stations. It was cheaper, too. Corprate fatcats!!!!

My apologies to Wes. I accidently terminated your new thread. I posted something that came in my mail in here and I didn't know that that would happen. I thought it would be helpful to those who know about the inner workings of these computers. So sorry. I'm dangerous.

-- joj (joj@home.org), November 30, 2001.

JOJ I already told everyone a while back. I have a Nissan Pathfinder, maroon. 1996. Some damage to front and rear. I like it.

'73 Volkswagen bug, bright red, no battery. I have to push start the sucker.

-- tamara (twilborn@earthlink.net), November 30, 2001.

1990 Mercury Sable. Used to be my dad's car. It's nice, though. I'm thinking about getting it painted.

Well, I've just bought a 99 F 150. I prefer the 1989 Mazda B2200 I just sold my son, but I couldn't resist the Ford, since they changed the cab, making it large enough for a full grown person to sit up straight in :)

-- joj (joj@home.org), November 30, 2001.

????you sold your son? HOW MUCH DID YOU GET!!! TELL MEEE!!! I wanna sell my sister...To the highest bidder. We'll start the bidding at 25 cents.

-- Davey Rootbeer (yankeefans2@juno.com), November 30, 2001.

I'm driving a cool restored '77 Monte Carlo. Its metal flake brown in color. It used to belong to a friend of mine in HS.

-- Wes Kinsler (kinsler1@hotmail.com), December 01, 2001.

Davy, you're funny. How old, how cute, and how much does she weigh? Twenty five cents sounds a bit cheap; there must be something wrong.

I used to threaten to sell my daughter, when she was unusually unruly. I am pretty sure i could have gotten at least $100K.

She thought I was serious, she now tells me, 10-15 years later. poor thing.

FINALLY! Someone apreciates my sporadic attempts at humour! When I try to do that at ATFF, Freya thwaps me with a newpaper. (dont ask...) As for my sister, she's 29, obnoxious, and comes with matching emotional baggage. Accessories not included.

1998 Pontiac Trans Am, black ext, black leather int, 5.7 V8, 6 spd manual. Car payments and insurance rates are killing me but it's worth it.

Btw I am extremely insulted by how males in their young 20's are required to pay higher insurance rates than other people. That's discrimination and I think it's unfair. It's true that most guys in their late teens/early 20's drive like idiots (I know I did when I was 16) but why should we all have to pay because of them? I have never had an accident and only 1 speeding ticket (76 mph in a 65 mph zone) and othe rthan that my driving record is 100% clean.

-- Holier Than Thou (holy@man.com), December 01, 2001.

Actually, it's young, single males in their teens in New York that pay the highest insurance. I should know (poor me!).I'm 17, and I have to pay over 3,000 a year JUST to be able to stay on the road. I PAY MORE INSURANCE THAN MY CAR IS WORTH!!!!!!!!!! Never had an accident (heck, I've only been driving for 3 months). And married men pay LESS than single men (quite confusing, If y'ask me).

-- Davey Rootbeer (yankeefans2@juno.com), December 01, 2001.

Because a teen is more likely to drive crazy, and a married man is more likely to be more careful.

-- Krunch Kobra (??????@??????.???), December 01, 2001.

If I lived in New York City (or any large city) I would not own a car. You have the subways, you have a great transit system, you can go everywhere you need to by walking or by bus. There is no need for a car. Insurance rates are always higher in big cities, there is traffic congestion everywhere, and there's never anywhere to park. I live in a medium city, and our transit system sucks, besides the buses don't go everywhere so I need a car.

-- Holier Than Thou (holy@man.com), December 02, 2001.

HAH! you can't WALK anywhere in my old neighborhood (unless you are suicidal, of course). I don't know if you've ever lived in a big city, but I came from the slums, the ghetto, the BAD neighborhood. If you were out of favor, they "was gonna MESS__YOU__UP!!!!!" The only way out was when my dad left, and my sister's husband's mother had a house on Long Island. We moved in there when I was 12.

NO WAY would I still be alive today if I had to go to High School in my hometown. Y'all ever seen that cartoon, the PJ's? With Eddie Murphy? Now, Imagine for a second that that was real. Now stop imagining, and go visit my old neighborhood. It IS real.

-- Davey Rootbeer (yankeefans2@juno.com), December 05, 2001.

If your neighborhood is really that bad then having a car would be even worse than walking because it would get stolen or vandalized. There are too many neighborhoods like that in the US. They should send the army in to take care of all the thugs and turn the neighborhoods into safe places to live, because the police clearly can't do the job. Maybe they should bring back all the peacekeepers from Africa and the Balkans and put them in all the bad neighborhoods here in the US.

-- Holier Than Thou (holy@man.com), December 07, 2001.

We had a parking garage. And, this is my OLD neighborhood we're talkin' about. Still, I agree that the slums and inner-city communities should be paid more attention to.

-- Davey Rootbeer (yankeefans2@juno.com), December 07, 2001.

it makes me really mad that car insurance is so high for teens than it is for older people. i mean everyone says that its because teens are more likely to take risks, but then again not all teens are the same. thats like being racial all over again. like one mexican broke into a store so all mexicans will break into the stores. it should be based on individuality.to teens the car is freedom and we all need some freedom every now and then.

Well I been watchin this thread for about 20 years now, time to chime in.

I drive (work truck) a 1986 Ford F-250 4x4 with 190,000 odd miles on it. Fucker just keeps going and going and going....no major repairs, just change the oil every three thousand miles.

Need a new car? See above, lol. Ford used to build shit in the 1970s, but they got their act together big time.

I drive a 03 Alero

-- Jerame Askew (tycron@excite.com), October 30, 2003.

I drive a black on tan 2001 Mercedes-Benz E300, no window tint, OEM premium chromed alloy wheels. Why? Because its like driving around in a wing-tip loafer which is well made inside and out, and lasts forever. Its my third Mercedes. The "snob factor" is part of it, but mostly its the quality. You can spend the same on a Cadillac, but the Caddy will be in the junk yard 10 years later.
