"Jesus traveled from village to village teaching, and he sent his apostles out to preach in pairs. He instructed them to take nothing with them but a staff- no food, no money, and no extra clothes. If anyplace made them unwelcome, Jesus instructed them to shake the dust off their feet as they departed."

When you travel, what is the most important thing you take with you? Why?

Well I like to have money, but if I am staying all night when traveling, I want a toothbrush!!!

Hello Melissa, Back in the PB, (pre-baby) days, Melitza and I use to travel light. We once spent a whole week with nothing more than a backpack and my Harley-Davidson traveling from Orlando, Fl to Cherokee, NC and then from Cherokee, NC to Chapel Hill, NC (my home town) back home to Orlando.

Thoreau used a similar phrase that Jesus said when traveling through a town. Thoreau said, that him and his walking companion, shook the dust off their garments as the left town. Now, I know where HDT got his cliche.

Sincerely,

Ernest

My hubby always laughs at how much I will pack for a short trip. BUT I have six children;) Even conservatively, that's a lot of clothes, a lot of pillows and blankies, a lot of snacks and drinks,a lot of quiet games, etc. Oh, and don't forget the can and paper towels just in case someone gets carsick. Doesn't someone always?

Spring through fall we travel light. Pillow and book for me, and we always take a source of water. Winters are a different story, ours can be severe and unpredictable.

I made up a kit containing a couple days worth of medications, hairbrush, toothbrushes/toothpaste, basic first aid stuff, matches, a roll of TP (works for starting fires as well as original purpose!), small kindling, a tiny metal pot and two cups with instant soup mix and tea bags, 2 pr. gloves, scarves, hats. This all fits in a small duffle bag. I also keep 2 old, warm coats, 2 heavy blankets, 2 pr. snow boots and heavy socks in the trunk of the car. Dh keeps a toolkit, overalls, flashlight and flares in the trunk at all times. Around here, if you get stranded in a remote area in winter, you could end up dead if you're not prepared.

I love this thread!!! lol

I have to at least have my hairbrush. Having long hair, you really can't go a day without brushing. Everything else is just gravy.
