The 500n is capable of using and Canon E or EZ series Speedlite in TTL mode. It is capable of using any EX series Speedlite in E-TTL mode, which is a bit better and offers features like high speed sync and Flash Exposure Lock.

I'm not sure what you mean by "multiflash facilities." If you mean Canon's wireless multiple flash system, then no, the 380EX isn't capable of that. You will need at least one Canon 550EX or ST-E2 and a 420EX or another 550EX.

Canon does make a wired system for multiple flash units, but it's cheaper to buy a 550EX and a 420EX, as expensive as they are.

The 380EX and 420EX's main problems are the lack of manual controls and flash exposure compensation controls. Since the 500n lacks those controls as well, it's not the best match in my opinion. I'd save up for a 550EX or get a Sigma EF500 Super which is very much like the 550EX but half the price.
