b&w photo paper safe in checked luggagegreenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
Hi all,I've read through all the advisories regarding how film should not be carryed in checked luggage, but i was wondering ( this may seem really stupid) does that apply to photo paper, too? I'm just wondering because I'm thinking of bringing a couple of boxes back home to Hong Kong, b/c it's a lot cheaper over here, but i dont' have room in my carryon (b/c of all those rolls of film :)
thanks in advance, ken

B&W photo paper is coated with a silver emulsion just as film is. It may be damaged if the "box" that it is in is deemed suspicious by the x-ray operator. The first scan is low powered but any subsequent scans are very high powered and will toast film and paper.

"The first scan is low powered but any subsequent scans are very high powered and will toast film and paper."Though I would guess that paper is less likely to be damaged, since it is slower (i.e., less sensitive to light) than film. But I would probably just buy my paper at home, too.
