EOS 3000 Lenses

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have had my Canon EOS 3000 for almost a year and I have taking 1 photography course, but I am considering purchasing a new lens.. right now it has the EF 35-80mm F4-5.6 lens.. wondering what the next lens up would be best for me. I use camera for wildlife, landscape, people, babies.. etc... Any suggestions would be helpful..

Sarah,

If you just want a zoom lens that is better than the one you have, I would say go with the EF 28-105 f3.5-4.5 USM, the EF 24-85 f3.5-4.5 USM or the EF 28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS USM. All of these lenses would suit your needs just fine. Do not bother with the 28-90 4-5.6. It would not be worth the change. I have the 28-105 and I like it very much. I have used it for everything you have mentioned, except babies, and have been quite happy with the results.

Sarah,

You will have to decide for yourself what you want next but perhaps we can help you understand your options....

The 35-80 is a pretty limited range, if you like the idea of a general purpose zoom but just want a more flexable one, then Rodger is giving you some very good suggestions (the 28-135 being my favorite of his list).

Your other option would be to choose a lens that compliments your current lens instead of replacing it. Something like a 70-300 or 100- 300 would be a good option, especially for the wildlife.

Good luck,

-J
