Avoid computer viruses

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Maybe this is too simple, but my way of avoiding computer viruses is not to open any attachments to email unless it meets each of two criteria. First, it must be from someone I know. Also, I must either be expecting it or must have confirmed with the sender that they in fact sent it AND originated it. I will never, ever open a forwarded attachment.

I'm sure some of you computer gurus out there can tell me other ways my PC could become infected, but I think this method covers over 90%+ of infections today. I hope this helps.

I've gotten several over the last few days--e-mails with attachments from unfamiliar addresses. I just got another using someone's address I know. I read, I think on a different forum, that there is one now which you can get simply by opening the mail and NOT opening the attachment. There's been quite a rash of these things, so ya'll be extra careful.
