Mark,

I'm in Sydney - I don't know about the 38XL but I can tell you that I have the Apo-Grandagon 35mm and I love it.

Mark, Seem to recall an article in View Camera July/August 2001. The review seemed to suggest that the lens was great for 6x7. Okay for 6x9 with very limited movement, and not good for any larger.

Though I don't have a 35mm Grandagon OR a 38mm Super Angulon, my (already made) opinion is the f 4.5 Grandagon would be the lens of choice for this focal length area, since it is BRIGHTER (f4.5 vs f5.6), however I expect the XL may have a larger image circle (don't know though). I have the Grandagons 45mm, 55mm, 65, 75 and on up and like them very much. (I used to have a 47mm f5.6 Super Angulon)
