Need cheap winter vacation spot w/snow

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Since so many of you are from all over the world, I'd thought I'd post here. I live in N.E. Tex, my children have only seen snow a few times and here it's wet, nasty and gone in a couple of hours. I'd like a place where the snow is nice, dry, and fluffy, doesn't have to be a ski resort, we don't want to ski, just would like to find a cabin or motel at a good price, would like to maybe have a place to rent a snowmobile and to play. The 1st places that come to my mind in New Mexico or Colorada but I know it snows in Ok, and Ark also.

Carol in TX--Its snowing in Minnesota right now. Should have a good 8 to 10" by tonight. No need to rush to get up here because it should still be here until the first part of April. Trisha, you made me laugh. Thanks. And Carol--When you come and visit, bring some of the Texas heat because when this snow ends, a cold front always arrives with some bone chilling temps. At least you can go back to Texas.

Mich,, if you wait for 48 hours or so,, will have alot of snow,, first of the year. I know a nice resort on a lake that is better than reasonable in the winter

Carol...Maine might be a bit far for you to visit, but we do have snow in the western areas of our state. I know some of the ski resorts are up and running! Snowmobiling is a big "thing" up here also. As for my area...no snow yet. It's been quite warm (50's)!!

Carol, In my neck of the woods we get 20+' of snow! I run a groomer 2 or 3 days a week on the trails. I put on about 2000 miles a year on my sled....So yes I can steer you to lodging & rentals etc.

Ok so I'm a few miles from E.Tx.....but all you talked about is here! email for more info....

I've seen snow. It's cold and it's wet. Threw a snowball at someone - it made their nose bleed. I've seen skiing on the teb - tele - idiot box. It made my bad back cringe. I really don't want a closer acquaintance.

However, if you have a bit of money, Australia has snowfields bigger than Switzerland; and New Zealand (a smaller country) has even more; and they're both available during the long summer (for you) vacation. And I'll tell you - you'd REALLY benefit from exchange rate variations - hurts us (unless you come and spend your money here); but would really benefit you.
