Gelatine Silverprint

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

Just wondering, what does the surface of a gelatine silverprint look like? Glossy? Not glossy? Is it easy to see all the small "dots"? Does the picture lye on top of the paper or does it "sink in"?

Please answer this question as soon as possible!

Thank`s, Melinda.

In a silver gelatine print the paper is coated with gelatine, containing the silverhalide. The surface can be glossy e.g AGFA multicontrast 111, silk as AGFA multicontrast 118, dead matte as Maco RN. Not clear what you mean with dots: if you mean film grain it depends on used film and developer whether it's easy....

Unless i am mis-understanding your question? this is just the musem way of talking about black and white prints, silver vs salt, vandyke, etc.
