Bombjack-vote!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I don´t know if I have the right to make a public vote on a game, but I´ll try :)

I would like to suggest Bombjack beeing set to a 5man only game.

Settings would be TG (or harder)

Why? Because it´s a marathon game on ANY settings as long as you don´t have a 5 men rule.

After playing the deca 2001 I found out that its much more fun, and more of a challange to play the game that way. The recordings will be about 5-10 times shorter and maybe even fun to watch! :)

Anyway I vote for a 5man rule with TG or harder. Please say either "yes" or "no"

ps:If any of you editors have anything against me setting up this vote-post feel free to take over the vote etc.

Otherwise.. let the votes begin!

Regards

Eh? I'm curious where that says that Tommi... I need to change that - anybody can post a vote - but the rules coordinator can reject a vote if and only if it's unrealistic.

On that note, heck yeah - aye!

YES!!!

-- INNUENDO (funit@bol.com.br), November 23, 2001.

I gots to go with the flow on this:

Aye!

This definitely makes the games more interesting, not to mention a lot easier to watch :)

"aye" , of course....

Didn`t we vote on this before ? Or was it simply discussed ?

Aye. I just love the fact that my vote only got 2 votes (Innuendo's was after, so it doesn't count) and this one gets many more :P I guess that shows how many people hate Bosconian.

I vote to keep Bombjack as it is. To impose a 5 life limit on the game is artificial (there are no DIP settings to enforce this) and is not in the spirit of playing the game in a real arcade and going for your high score. Yes it is a marathon game.

I would like to see a 5 life Bombjack game entry at MARP though, just put it under another name like 'bombjack-5lives' or something.

Cheers, LordGaz

-- LordGaz (garyjlee@hotmail.com), November 24, 2001.

Excellent idea LordGaz :-)

I propose for all games there was change of settings as Bomb Jack, Ghosts'n Goblins (if it pass to 5 lives)or Bosconian to make 2 entries, one will be the default one for all players, and one dedicaced for the elite one with 5 lives.

And so, everybody will be happy

Gary, Francois:

I suggested moths ago that Bombjack would be splitted into a marathon (like now) and a 5men only.

There is a rule on marp though, (wich Pat can tell more about) There is no way that Bombjack will be splitted int two games it seems :( Pat please fill in the details for this can you? I don´t remember exact WHY Bombjack (and other games like this) would not be splitted.

Choosing from a marathon game vs 5men only I prefer 5men only.

just my 2 cents.

But if we can have o1-ghouls entry, why we can't have ghouls-5lives ? It's an exemple :-)

No Francois, I think it's more of a "Then everyone would want to have another listing on this game, or an extra listing just for TG, etc." Which would just give the better player another 100 points for the leaderboard.

-- Joe Ledesma (JoeyL21988@yahoo.com), November 24, 2001.

You make a point, Joey :-) I haven't think of the 100 points.

Basically, if a game can be easily marathoned, then a vote should take place to change the scoring for MARP. Alas, here we are and I vote yes! If the motion is passed, then all scores are reviewed and adjusted to 5-lives only and then stated as such in the comments. Note that re-recording INPs is not required AND marathon scores will be accepted, however for the purposes of tracking the MARP leaderboard, only 5 lives scores will count. Furthermore the game will NOT be split to accomodate marathoning. A marathoned game is for other scoreboards such as Mark Longridge's MAME WR scoreboard at http://cubeman.vg-network.com/ If you're curious about a similar game that has successfully undergone this rule change (no dip switch for 5 lives) check out Q*bert...

Also, on the subject of splitting these... Some people (myself included) will remember when Magical Drop 2/3 were split seven ways instead of the current three. Needless to say, this made it a lot easier for someone good at the general concept to get 1400 LB points. Now that's been reduced by 800... so it's better, I suppose. Just figured I'd contribute against splitting games into marathon and five-life sets.

I vote in the affirmative on only the first 5 men counting for points in terms of leaderboard..... otherwise who want's to watch a 24 hour, 70 million point recording?!

On this vote, the ayes are nine, the nays are one. The ayes have it and the motion is carried. All bombjack and it's clones' recordings will be reset and play will be start over from 0. There will be a five life limit on all recordings. The old recordings were moved to bombjack-m, and bombjac2-m (marathon) for now - where they will earn 0 leaderboard points. GB9

-- Gameboy9 (goldengameboy@yahoo.com), December 02, 2001.

Why does there need to be a Bombjack-m and Bombjac2-m listing at 0 points? Doesn't it make more sense for players to upload their scores as a 5-life mark (since such has been decided) as the official score and then they can list their total marathon score in the description? Seems like overkill otherwise, and that was part of what removing the extra splits was meant to prevent.

On a side note, like LordGaz, I'm not big on artificial dips, but I guess this game was getting a little extreme.

Well... they can resubmit using the 5 life score. I really don't have the time to look over all of them and giving a 5 life score. (finals coming up... elections... just finished olympiad...) GB9

-- Gameboy9 (goldengameboy@yahoo.com), December 02, 2001.

Gameboy9: PLEASE REREAD MY APPEND REGARDING BOMBJACK!!!!

Bombjack was NOT to be split!! In the meantime all scores should a) be left alone or b) reset to zero. People need to review their Bombjack INPs and make adjustments for 5 lives scoring. Editors, myself included, will need to find time and review/confirm those that are not looked at. Yes it's time consuming and everyone is busy, but this is the way it needs to be handled so its done properly. Again, this was how transitioning from marathons was done for Q*Bert.

-- ***PL*** (laffaye@mail.com), December 03, 2001.

Alright then, do it that way. It doesn't matter to me how it's done - if you want to do it that way, then do it that way. As I said - I can't deal with this right now, I'm way too busy. GB9

-- Gameboy9 (goldengameboy@yahoo.com), December 03, 2001.

Turns out that I did it -> 5 life score anyway :) bombjack-m and bombjac2-m is still there... but since it's earning zero points... I guess it doesn't matter all that much... GB9
