Amen to that!

There was a radio call in show about home sewn gifts yesterday. It was a fine one. I'm not doing homemade this year except for the boys to make gifts for their special people (godparents etc). I just don't ahve the time this year and we will be away for the holidays too. Now,next year will probably be another story. I've been doing homemade for christmas for the last 5 years! I love it and so do those we give too. My favorite gifts have often been homemade. I really really like it when my husband gets in on the act though. It feels so togethery to work on gifts.

Jason, thats an unAmerican idea!!! Remember the head cheese told all us sheeeeple that it was our duty to get out there and >>> Buy- Spend- buy- spend- buy! buy! buy! How else will we keep our >Corp-a-rations< happy?? Whether ya need it or not........buy that Junk! *[rant off]*

-- Jim-mi (hartalteng@voyager.net), November 22, 2001.

Un-American? Well, I guess I'm guilty as charged. But, it's not the worst I've been called!

-- Jason in S. Tenn. (AJAMA5@netscape.net), November 23, 2001.

Like it or not, our society's economy depends on this consumerism. We have become too heavily steeped in a credit-dependent cycle, and companies will collapse if people don't spend money (and people will lose their jobs). Luckily for all us, we know how to live without a paycheck or close to it, right? We won't be spending any more than any other time of the year.

-- Dawn (olsoncln@ecenet.com), November 23, 2001.

It is CRAZY how utterly dependent the mindless consumerism is to our society. It blows people's minds all the time that I have a modest house that's paid for instead of a half million dollar estate, my vehicles are all used and are paid for in full instead of making payments on a new beemer, and that I don't have a credit card.

It's called vanity, A.K.A. a life of empty show. Needs are finite, wants are infinite.

-- (slackjawedyokel@fidnet.com), November 23, 2001.

Eric , NO credit card--No mortage-- you to must be unAmerican!!! shame shame...

removing tounge from cheek......

P.S. Turned on the 6pm t&v news.........and whats the first item of "news"??.....why its the flocks of sheeple slamming thru the wally's doors at 6 a&m...thats BIG news!!

Jason & Eric...I didn't see you all......wonder why.

-- Jim-mi (hartalteng@voyager.net), November 23, 2001.

I didn't buy a thing today!!!!!!!!Wife went to grocery store though....bought everyday stuff....not a thing on "sale". Felt mighty good to buck the system.

-- Jason in S. Tenn. (AJAMA5@netscape.net), November 23, 2001.

Right on, Jason! As I posted on another thread here, we do not celebrate any of the holidays thrust upon the mindless sheeple as so- called "celebratory" days but instead elect to create our own special days. Most of the "corporate" holidays are based on mistruths or outright lies anyway. Even when we do celebrate an event, it is usually something special we DO for someone else, not something purchased. On the semi-rare occasion that we celebrate a birthday, it is usually only with a simple homemade cake and a well-wishing, nothing more. Heck, we don't even celebrate anniversarys (can't remember what day is was exactly!!) I say, Resist the mindless celebrating of occasions which have been sold to you as "important" days by corporate America. Their designation as "important" today only means that you are required to buy someone something and, of course, as a quaint diversionary tactic from what's really going on.

Sorry for the rant, but I can't stop myself sometimes!!

"Sheeple" is starting to appear on several threads...(sounds like old Y2k jargon to me.) Being somewhat considerate of our four-legged friends who supposedly inspired such nomenclature, I feel obliged to speak up (bleat, actually) and suggest perhaps employing another tag for the masses...

-- sheepish (WA) (the_original_sheepish@hotmail.com), November 23, 2001.

Gee if the term works / fits???.............

what else would you suggest????.............

-- Jim-mi (hartalteng@voyager.net), November 23, 2001.

The Sheeple were out in force yesterday. The early reports from merchants is far better than expected. Maybe they will shop our way out of the recession.

-- Joe (CactusJoe001@AOL.com), November 24, 2001.

Some of my best friends are sheep! Well, goats actually....sorry to offend....I really do like wool!

Hmmm....lets see.....mindless automatons?.....brainless boobs?....plastic addicts?....military intelligence?.....oh ..um...forget that last one ;)

-- Jason in S. Tenn. (AJAMA5@netscape.net), November 24, 2001.

Please Jason go shopping !!!!.........untill it hurts...

-- Jim-mi (hartalteng@voyager.net), November 24, 2001.

I have a friend who refers to "them" as guppies. When something happens on one side of the tank they all swim over there until something happens on the other side of the tank and they all swim back...

-- nancy (stoneground@catskill.net), November 25, 2001.

Nancy that's good...why not start a new thread of the same sort of "guppieee" ism's....ought to be good for lots of chuckles?

-- Jim-mi (hartalteng@voyager.net), November 26, 2001.

Yeah, guppy....that's it! Let's move our focus back into the aquarium where it belongs!
