shelves in starplate buildinggreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I built a storage building with starplates. One thing I didn't foresee is that the walls are not vertical. Some slant in, others slant outward. I would like to build some shelves, but haven't come up with a method that sounds good. Any advice? TIA.

Are starplates sold in the US?Use a 2x4 to make a fake vertical wall. Find a comon point out from the true wall

You might try making any shelves run the entire length of the building. This way the slanting wall won't be the only support. (ie... a 2 X 4 or larger can run the length of a wall but be 1 1/2 to 2 ft from the wall itself. Then you can put up a board to use for the shelf (supporting the back with your hand), set a level on top to get it strait, & mark the wall where the back supports need to be. After taking down the board (to be shelf) you can then put up another 2 X 4 (or bigger) on the back wall for the back shelf support. You can (on week areas) put up a supporting board (brace) at an angle from the front supporting board to a point (about 1 to 2 ft under it) below the back wall support.) This is the only idea I can think of for now, but it makes for a long shelf & a lot more storage space. Also keep in mind that some things can be hung from hooks as well (ei... bikes, garden tools like rakes & shovels, etc...)Hope you get many more ideas.
