2nd Curtain flash

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have just seen an effect that uses 2nd curtain sync (with a flash gun) and it looks a really usefull effect. Is it possible to do this with an EOS 300, if so do I have to use a Speedlite flash, or can I use another gun. Your answers would be much appreciated

This very question was discussed here last month. Did you scan this board first?

I can't make that work: (http://greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch- msg.tcl?msg_id= 006i2Y)

The EOS 300 is capable of second curtain sync but doesn't have the controls built in to do it. So you need a flash that is both capable of second curtain sync and has the controls for it.

Several Canon Speedlites will do this; 550EX, 540EZ, 430EZ, 420EZ. I can't remember about the 380EX and the 420EX. There are also several third party flashes that can do this; Sigma EF430 and EF500 Supers, a couple of Metz units & I think the Sunpak 5000.

Oops. Somehow a space got in there by mistake. It should be:

(assuming this doesn't end up with an erroneous space after the "msg_id=" bit as well)

Dammit. Somehow a space is getting inserted into the string when I post it to this bb.

The space isn't present in the text editing box on my browser when I type it in, so it's either something weird with my browser, a problem with the bb software, or both. Sorry.

Let me try it.

Looks like it works.

Only the 430EZ, 540EZ and 550EX have controls for 2nd curtain sync. For the 420EX and 380EX, you set 2nd curtain sync from the body. Only the mid- and high end EOS cams--Elan 7E/30/33, EOS 5/A2, 3, 1N, 1V--have these controls, your EOS 300 lacks them.

The Sigma flash may also have these controls.
