AVI -> MPEG -> VCDgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread
I'm using Nero 5 to burn a VCD. I'm not sure what's wrong... when I put the VCD into the VCD player, it says "NO DISC". But, I can view the same VCD on my PC.
The movie is an AVI file converted into MPEG. I've followed all the necessary steps given by related websites and discussion forums, but still can't view it. There're no other error messages during the file conversion and burning process - only the "NO DISC" shown on the VCD player.

Most likely your DVD player does not support CD-R media. Please go to www.vcdhelp.com and look at the DVD Player Compatibility List and see what it says about your player. You can try burning to CD-RW instead and see if your player recognizes that as some players that don't support CD-R media will play CD-RW discs. However, there are some DVD players that don't support CD-R or CD-RW media and you won't be able to watch any discs you burn on those players. The "NO DISC" message is a real good indication that your player probably doesn't support CD-R media.

When I make backups of commercially produced VCDs using Nero 5.xx they play perfectly on my standalone VCD and on my MPEG decoder (Hollywood+)
When I burn my own VCDs using Nero 5.xx they are recognised as VCDs by Hollywood+ and play perfectly but my standalone player tells me that no disk is inserted. I am working on it.

I think the problem is in the type of media that you're burning with. I tried using various types like Sony, Verbatim, Fuji,Maxell etc but none worked. I then found a brand called Princo and it played very well on my home DVD player with the VCDs that I made on my PC.In the meantime I had spent like $20 buying and burning various brands with the same source material!Good luck. (Princo is available on the net, just search for Princo)
