Where in the sky should I look for the meteor shower?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I know the metor shower is between 4-6 a.m. eastern time; however, I have not been able to find out which part of the sky to be watching. My neighbor said he thought it was in the southern sky, but is not sure if the is correct. Thanks for the info!

Up. Really, they will be all over the place. The radient point is Leo, but experts say that that is the worst place to look, as the meteors will be visible only when going away from that point.

It is Southeast from what I have heard on the news tonight. Hope it doesn't cloud up here cause it's totally clear right now. Good Luck wherever you are. They are calling for cloudy skies here after midnight. Deb

We watch the Leonids every year, if it's not cloudy (it usually is, but it's clear tonight, and we're seting our alarm for 2:00 a.m.

Most the meteors we see are visible if you face north, and they al most all travel from right to left.

I just got up and put the coffee on. Think I'll watch it from the greenhouse with a heater.

They are coming out of the southeast in Wisconsin, and heading sort of south-southwest. If you face directly west, the majority are going over at about 10 o'clock (using airplane referencing, not actual time!) I've been watching them for a while now and I'm in warming up alittle.

Yeah, well, here in West Central Indiana we were up at 4 to watch it. Didn't see a thing. I was/am beyond disappointed. So was the Boy. How did I mess up? The sky was dark and all, just no meteors! Beyond disappointed.

It was a wonderful show! I watched from about 2:45AM (CST)for about an hour. Counted eighty one shooting stars! and I know I missed a whole bunch! There was even one (due east) that appeared to blow up at the end of its trail! Wow!

I especially liked the twins. Apparently a few split on entry into the atmosphere. The contrails were wonderful.

Well, the view atop my Brooklyn rooftop wasn't anything great. I did see two meteors with a neato bluegreen tail, but mostly I had a hard time sussing out the meteors amid all the helicopters, planes, etc. over our airspace. The other buildings, streetlights, and hill I live on didn't assist in the efforts. Oh well, at least I tried.

It was all clouds in our part of TX. Too bad. I was really hoping to see them.

Got up at 4:00 Sunday AM and went outside to watch the sky while my coffee brewed. Although the sky was a bit hazy, I could still make out the stars and there were clear patches and I started to see some meteorites, so I went inside and got the family out of bed. Got the coffee for my husband and I and packed a thermos of hot chocolate for the girls and we were off to the local gravel pit. We were a bit dissapointed because of the pesky clouds which eventually rolled in and covered the entire sky, but were glad we took the trouble to get up and go out to watch. We probably saw 50 meteorites in all. Some were very bright flashes, others were very unassuming little trails of light across the dark sky.

I'd do it again. I'm hoping next year will be clear and bright. Thanks to whoever mentioned it last month. I do appreciate it.
