How to burn an avi video clip to disc using Nero burning rom

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have a couple of video clips in avi format that I downloaded from the net. I want to put them onto cd rom using Nero so that they will play through my DVD player and TV. I have Nero burning rom and have tried to burn it by selecting to create a VCD in the wizard, however, when i press to burn it says that it is encoding the video and then stops. No burning takes place. Does anybody know where i am going wrong ?????

No answer yet, But I have the same problem. I get a message "not enough memory" and the encoder stops. I have more than enough memory and paging space. If I find a solution I'll let you know.

Don't you have to convert it to MPEG-1?

I recommend TMPGEnc (http://www.tmpgenc.com/)

I've never done this as I record directly to MPEG-1/2, but Nero has to encode the video to MPEG-1 before burning. Try running it at night before you go to bed and see if has finished in the morning. I would expect the encoding to take several hours, depending on the speed of your CPU. If Nero is simply not finishing the encoding or you get an error message like a followup post talks about running out of memory, you can go to www.ahead.de and check the help tool to see if there are any suggestions for this problem. The encoding to MPEG-1 could easily take 8 hours or more, depending on a variety of factors, so make sure you give it enough time to reasonably finish.

I have just upgraded to 5.5xx and was disapointed to find the prob as described above - however, I discovered that Nero dosen't actually freeze up (although it does a very good job of playing possum). Just let it go and you'll find the interface refreshes every few minutes or so (depends on CPU etc. I guess). I left pc on overnight and the burn had completed though the pc had locked up :( The avi I tried was 220MB and I've since determined that the encoding to Mpeg1 took just over 2 hours and the burn about 9 minutes at 8X (no speed test or sim). I'm running 384 PC100 Ram and Cel600 CPU - not a great set up but it worked (in a fashion). I'm going to try TMPGEnc and see if I can speed up the encoding process. Be interested to hear if anyone has followed this same path and their results.

I've done this many times. Use the free TMPGenc encoder that you get at TMPGenc.net, rather than .com (its more current and has a better wizard). Be sure you choose VCD for NTSC (America) or PAL (Europe). Be sure to set conversion to MPEG-1VCD (not just plain old MPEG-1). Once converted, Nero should have no problem with it.

u have to convert with tmpgenc, much better than Nero. Turn the avi file into mpeg, then u can burn as vcd (or even svcd if u use the svcd settings in tmpgenc) withe nero.
