Favorite Books

If you were stranded on a desert island, what favorite book would you want to have with you? To make this a little harder, the Bible is already there, so pick a different one!!

This question came to mind when my 10 year old daughter asked me which book was my favorite. I said, "I don't know!!" She agreed that choosing was hard, becasue the book she is currently reading is always her favorite!!!

Since this just came to me, I don't know what my answer is yet. I will think it over and post it later.

I have always loved the book "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L"Engle. I read it numerous times in Jr. High and High School and still read it. I can't wait for my kids to get old enough to read it. And now, I see that they are making it into a movie on the Family Channel. Can't wait!

That would be "Illusions" by Richard Bach, the turning point of my thinking patterns.

Anything by Orson Scott Card. I guess my favorite is "Ender's Game." Great stuff! Neil Gaiman is awesome, too, but Orson Scott Card will always be my favorite author.

My favorite book is A Latern in Her Hand, by Bess Streeter Aldrich, but if I was stranded, I'd want Carla Emery's book Encyclopedia of Country Living.

Since I don't read a lot of fiction, I'd have to say Carla Emory's Country Encyclopedia also. I can read that book over and over and never tire of it!

Since I'm kind of klutzy, probably a medical book!

My Bible concordance or my hymnal.

Hello, Mitch, Illusions is good and so is Jonathon Livingston Seagull. Since it is an island that I am stranded on I guess it would have to be Robison Cursoe by Daniel Defoe. My most favorite reading though is actually The Complete Works Of Henry David Thoreau. I think it would get me through the toughest times! Sincerely, Ernest

My current favorite author is Elizabeth Peters who writes the Vicky Bliss series and Amelia Peabody series-they are Archiological Mysteries and they are great escapist reading-which is what you would want on a deserted island right?

I don't think I could pick just one......Though If I had to be pratical, on a deserted island, Carla Emory would be a wise choice.

A quick question Ernest, this is off the thread but how did you get straddled with such a long email address?

I collect Little House on the Prarie books and love the do it yourself or books on homesteading etc. I would have to say any one of the above.

Mitch that is Ernest's address for his site on MSN. If you haven't seen it, go to it. There are some neat pictures and other fun stuff too!

One of the many survival books that make living on a tropical island much easier. I live in the hot, humid, lower Chihuahuan desert; I would hardly know anything about living on a seacoast.

If for my own pleasure, I think Earth Abides by George Stewart, or Cache Lake Country by John Rowlands would be hard to choose from my own list.

Anything having to do with history, particularly the time period from 1875-1950. I especially like reading about how the OLD family farm worked, the kind like the Waltons and the Wilders that were not specialized.

If I was stranded I would want a book entitled "How to get off of a deserted Island" Actually my favorite book is Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson

Well, I must say due to my moms testing out different books, if you like Anne of Green Gables ( which i love), you would like another book written by L.M Montgomery called THE BLUE CASTLE. Its a fabulous story about a 29 year old woman who tries to find herself in the outbacks....the plot thickens like moms gravy. I'd give more specifics, but I ASK YOU ALL TO SEARCH AND READ. I'v read it eight times.

Melinda, at least you've inherited something from me.

This is a tough one! We have 8 BIG bookcases in our house. How can I choose just one book? I think I'd take.......... nope, can't do it!

-- Jo (mamamia2kids@msn.com), November 13, 2001.

I'm sure my choice wouldn't help me survive, but my favorite author is Grace Livingston Hill. I have almost all of her books and have read some of them several times. Reading is my very favorite past- time. I have been known to cook and stir something on the stove while reading a book held in the other hand.

No question about it-Walden by H. D. Thoreau. One of the best books ever!

-- Joe (threearrs@hotmail.com), November 13, 2001.

I have been thinking about this all day! Since it would only be one book, and I love humor, it would have to be some kind of humor book. I have several authors I really like, but one book I could read over and over is "A Phillip Gulley Reader" which contains 3 of his best selling books.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare..the imagery alone would keep my brain alive for years and years......
