Canon Eos 3 vs 1n

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Hey,

Just wanted to hear opinions b/w the Canon EOS 1n and 3. They are nearly the same price used now and the 1n is still slightly higher at BHphotovideo.

sorry for those who read photo.net too, I know I posted this over the weekend.

I have the 1n, and my daughter got the 3. I have not used both, but they are both very good cameras. I think it depends on what you do:

I find with birds in flight, the 1n, with its smaller number of focus points has trouble tracking. I expect the 3 would be better for this.

If you are going to do infra-red, you have to get the 1n or put up with some fogging from the 3's infrared (as opposed to mechanical sprocket) film counter.

Much of what I do is landscape, where I really prefer my older FD mount stuff--the autofocus is more of a nuisance than anything else and for this kind of photography, the 1n has less distracting garbage in the viewfinder.

Hope this is some help. Again, both cameras are very, very good machines.
