rainhandler to replace gutters? do they work?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Has anyone ever used rainhandler (www.rainhandler.com) to replace gutters? They are supposed to eliminate the need to clean gutters. It looks like mini-blind slats to disperse the rain coming off the roof into raindrops.

The rainhandler looks like it just lets the rain go everywhere. Is that what you want? I would think that it would contribute to soil erosion problems (might not be an issue in your area). We have been very happy with Leafguard gutters. (www.leafguard.com I think). They are expensive, but worth it, and you can still use rainbarrels if you wish to collect the water.

What rainhandlers do is create a fine mist from the water and then it goes out over the grass and sokes in it does not make ruts and does work quite well.

That's why I said what I did about possible soil erosion. If you are in an area that gets a lot of rain, you want all that water to go elsewhere, like to storm drains or a lower area of your property.

I've also heard that they don't hold up well to heavy snow load. If that's not a problem in your area, never mind!
