Mark, Chinese Tallow or chinaberries are full of tanic acid. A goat who is hungry and eats these will get severe diarrhea. Yes death could follow, as acid in the rumen can kill all the good bacteria in it, and if the goat can't replenish this flora or buffer it with soda or good cured grass hay, it dies.

So what does the guy who tells you to worm with chiaberries goat's look like? If they are big, strong and healthy than listen to him. Then come on over the The Shed http://content.communities.msn.com/TheGoatShed/

and visit us and our goats, some photos of my stock are under Pictures then click on Lonesome Doe Nubians. If his stock is as nice as mine than listen to him, if my stock is nicer than his than perhaps we can talk :) Vicki

The name chinaberry seems to be applied to more than one species of plant. We have Chinese Tallow Trees here in North Florida but no one that I've head has ever called them chinaberries. That name is used for a totally different species of tree. I don't have access to my books just now or I'd look them both up for the latin names and maybe pictures. I've never head of it being used in vet med.
