US warplanes begin using Bagram airfield

TEHRAN, Nov 8: A representative of an anti-Taliban in northeastern Iran said on Thursday US warplanes touched down for the first time at Afghanistan's key Bagram airbase, north of Kabul, late on Wednesday.

"On Wednesday, for the first time since the start of US and British air raids on Afghanistan, a number of US warplanes landed at Bagram," Mohammad Mohaqeq, a member of the Hezb-i-Wahdat, was quoted by Iran's IRNA news agency.

"These planes have used this airport, which has been taken by the Islamic Unity Front, several times," he said.

The airbase lies in a contested area between Northern Alliance and Taliban lines some 50 kilometres north of Kabul.-AFP

For some reason I doubt this. If we are using this air field, the war in Afghanistan will soon be over.

Somehow, I just don't believe this. Rumors in war spread like fungus. If this were true, we can start looking for a coalition government to put together right away.
