Coast of Newfoundland

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

This photo was taken in August of this year at Cape Spear, Newfoundland, Canada. Cape Spear is the easternmost point in North America, jutting out into the Atlantic. As you can see, the ocean does not seem to appreciate the intrusion.

Technical info: Pentax MZ-5n with Pentax FA80-320mm. Kodak Royal Gold 100. Exposure data not recorded.

Let me know what you think.

Your image doesn't show up....please check the link again.

The link is right. I guess Geocities doesn't let you link to files stored on their site. Does anyone know a free site that does? Until then, if you right click on the file and select "view image", it comes up.

Still doesn't show up when I try to view the image. Geocities is a pain about that; didn't use to be.

Hey, looky there. If you try viewing the image at geocities.com instead of www.geocities.com, it shows up.

Looks like you've done a great job placing a wide range of contrast in the same frame. The black rock doesn't stand out much from the background on the left side (above the spray) but I bet it does better on the print. Also like the texture of the water and the freeze-frame action of the spray droplets.

You say you used Royal Gold 100; this looks monochrome. Is the film type incorrect, or did you desturate in PS?

Thanks for the tip Christian. I'll try that next time.

Yes, the rock in the background does come out nicely on the print. Also, my apologies for not indicating that this was desaturated in Photoshop. No other alterations were made. As you can probably imagine, there is very little colour, in the original.
