Voters in Santa Barbara elected a surfer with no telephone as their next mayor. Councilwoman Marty Blum beat six other challengers. Blum has said she wants to establish a marijuana free trade zone.

In San Francisco, an overwhelming 73 percent of voters chose to make the city one of the nation's largest solar power producers. Proposition B approves $100 million in revenue bonds to fund solar and wind power. Proposition H was also approved with about 55 percent of the vote, giving the Board of Supervisors authority to issue more revenue bonds for renewable energy without voter approval.

This is further evidence of the widespread animosity and prejudice against California that pervades the eastern two thirds of the United States; that I mentioned earlier, in the context of the California power crisis.

This is particularly frightening, in view of the fact that the United States is hated by much of the world, and California is hated by much of the United States. It gives the song "Hotel California" by the Eagles a new life, for those of us who cannot afford to move out.
