Where are the best players ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

Hey BBH, Essekappa and the Team2ch guys, please play to the Olympiads. It's the first video game Olympiads ever created and it will be great the best players are here, no ? What is the value of a victory without challenge, Wonder Boy without Essekappa, Rygar without BBH, shooting games without Hisa ?

Please, play against us.

I agree, Francois. This will be the challenge of the new century. And I´ll try do some surprises, ;).

Nah... BBH is busy kicking my ass in MSH vs. SF. ;)

Nice work beating my easy Bosco score. I'll submit your next challenge in a bit. :)

So, after one week of Olympiads, I find that :

The two best players at marp aren't qualified yet in even one game. There are only one japanese qualified and he's not a team2ch member.

What the matter ? Did you know there are Olympiads now ?

Thanks to play against us :-)

A victory isn't a real victory without challenge.

Who cares about the Olympiad, I've been wanting a challenge on Shock Troopers here from any country for the last two years! But nobody will do so, and now my scores feel hollow.

boo hoo

Most of the "really good players" are busy doing other things, like insulting me in #marp.

-- (dyishamista@aol.com), November 08, 2001.

But why you don't suggest it for the Olympiad, BBH ? I know some guys who play it really well and I think they can challenge you.

The Olympiad is a good thing for all the people who use Mame and for Video Games. It's the first time that many countries are challenging on old video games. It's great and must be begin again and again.

Why didn't I put Shock Troopers in the Olympiad? Because it woulda been a free win for me, that's why. I could take 1st without much effort, but what's the point? How does that prove anything?

If you know guys that can play the game "really well", here's an idea: TELL THEM TO UPLOAD THOSE SCORES TO MARP. Why do we need an Olympiad to induce challenges? If they can play the game that well, tell them to record and upload. You'll have to forgive my skepticism though, because I highly doubt they are at my level. If they can finish the game on one credit, that's great... but are they getting the maximum amount of kills through close-range attacks? Do they know the best route through the game for maximum points? Do they make the most of stalling in each level to bring more enemies out?

I'm not very arrogant and confident about too many games, but I can say this much about Shock Troopers - I have played it a LOT. And I can find nobody that has analyzed the game to the extent that I have. Yes, some guy in Japan supposedly got 31 million, but I'd like to see something like that with my own eyes. (I sense an obnoxious Hisa post coming...)

anyway, point is, there's been international challenges going on at MARP for a long time. The End.

I have to agree with BBH, but i am a judge for juno first, robotron, zookeep, But i am sure i will win VERY EASY at robotron, zookeep.

Why? Becouse i play this games for a year at least!!!!

How sb can beat me in a 2 week? Impossible.

But, on the other hand - maybe people will look at this games after olympiad. I have started to play zookeep since Deca2001, (i got first on zookeep with about 2.5M - now i have 16M score and best known score on arcade is 20M - quite close)

so BBh you made wrong not including Shoock Troopers in olympiad - just i never spot this game - and maybe it is nice for me so i will start to play (of course i couln't beat you in 2 weeks - no way)

Yes, some games in Olympiads have huge competition, some not. Games I'm judging, I'll propably have couple of "certain" golds, couple question marks and one impossible task. It will be fun to compete at those question marks, and I hope somebody finds a new personal favourite from my strong games. + I'm learning tricks by watching inps.

SLA you've been playing Robotron for a year now, that explains mine damn slow progression in the game. It certainly takes a time to get good at it, really difficult(challenging)game. Maybe someone will give you some competition at next mame olympiads in 2005, I'm certainly getting more hooked with it each day 8)

I think 'SLA' has being playing Robotron well more than a year :)

-- AL (alexweir@indigo.ie), November 15, 2001.

Thanks SLA, you proved my point... coordinating games you're guaranteed to get #1 at doesn't really promote much fun competition, it's just a free ego boost for the coordinator. If I was playing I'd have to be competing for 2nd place on Robotron or Zookeeper.

As for Shock Troopers. Yes, no matter how good you are, it would be impossible to pick up on every nuance of the game within two weeks' time. There is a LOT to learn about it. So if I had put it in the Olympiad, yes it would be a guaranteed 1st. The only other plus side is maybe getting someone else to try it and they find out they like it... but hey, there's a lot of games in the Olympiad, why bother trying to get a high score on that when there's plenty else to play? But like I've said, the competition on MARP is eternal.

I don't know if you'll start playing Shock Troopers (it's kinda like Robotron! har har... okay, not really), but I say the more people that play it the better. Especially now that my interest has been renewed in it...

Congrats for your new robo record SLA, I think it showed more skill compared to your previous recordings. You've been playing the game for some time now, and still improving. Not a long way ahed to marathoning the game.

Before olympiads I was stuck around 400K for some time. My aim was to get over 500K, which I did. Yesterday evening I managed to score even higher, 660K(not recording), mainly because I figured out a deadly (but risky) way to handle the tanks. Competition was not fierce, but I got more and more addicted to the game during olympiads, all I wanna do is play Robotron now:)

I think choice of the game was not "egoboost" as BBH claimed. You guys still could have joined to battle for second place, as sla propably wanted. With some competion for second place maybe even a challenger would have rosen after the olympiads.

yeah,
