Info. on Wolpe and desinsitisation

greenspun.com : LUSENET : History & Theory of Psychology : One Thread

I am doing an assignment on the Role of the behavioural therapies in hypnosis. In the introduction I am asked to comment on Pavlov's conditioned responses, Skinner's Operant learning and Wolpe's desensitisation and I have been unable to gather some data from the net on Wolpe's desensitisation principal. Although I know basically what it is about, I'd like more info. Could you give me some web pages which could be useful and contain this info? Thanks A.Scott

There is a short article in the Gale Encyclopedia of Psychology at http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/g2699/0000/2699000093/p1/article.jh tml. There's another at http://www.phobialist.com/treat.html. You might have better luck in your web searches using the American spelling of "desensitization". Also, you'd be better off still to have a look at one of Wolpe's own books:

Wolpe, J. (1958). Psychotherapy by reciprocal inhibition. Stanford: Stanford University Press.

Wolpe, Joseph. (1990). The Practice of Behavior Therapy. Tarrytown, NY: Pergamon Press,
