virtualdub does not read *.dat file. However, it will read mpeg file. What you need is convert the *.dat file to mpeg using vcdgear2.0. The process is quick and simple. Then you can load the mpeg file into virtualdub and convert it to avi format. As for converting it over to *.mov, u would need Quicktime software.
