Help! Rebel 2000 Shutter Problem?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

When I use my Rebel 2000 in green box mode, P mode or Tv mode(either outside or pointing to outside light) the shutter freezers in mid shot leaving nothing but blackness through the viewer. When I press shutter again, it releases but doesn't take a picture. Also, my zoom is at 80mm when this happens. Everything is fine when at 28mm or when inside at any zoom. Has anyone experienced this? What am I doing wrong? Please help.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong.

Check and clean the batteries and battery terminals with a soft dry cloth (Radio Shack Contact Cleaner or even a white eraser works good as well). Inspect (for wear) and clean the electrical contacts on the lens and body. Be careful not to get dust in the lens or camera. If you use contact cleaner, spray it on a Qtip, not directly on your equipment.

If this doesn't help, borrow another lens and see if it works (audition your fav wish lens at a Canon dealer). You may be able to isolate the problem to the lens or body and get repairs or a replacement.

Good Luck

I'd guess it's a lens problem. This sounds like the symptoms for an incompatible lens. It's not a Sigma zoom is it?

you should probably check your batteries and replace them...
