URGENT help needed! Phone or fax the White House! Stop 245(i)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

URGENT help is needed from you and the immigration reform activists in your area.

The appropriations bill for the Commerce, Justice and State Departments is currently being hammered out in Conference Committee on Capitol Hill, and President Bush is putting pressure on the conferees to include an extension of 245(i) in the bill.

The provision called 245(i) would allow illegal aliens - who are relatives or spouses of citizens or legal residents, or are sponsored by employers - to merely pay $1000 and become legal, (and this is important!) WITH NO BACKGROUND CHECKS DONE!

Besides violating the Rule of Law and acting as another amnesty for illegal aliens, this would be a HUGE NATIONAL SECURITY RISK. With no background checks, how do we know who these people are?

DIDN’T WE LEARN A LESSON FROM SEPTEMBER 11?!

Please call the White House Comment Line open 9-5, M-F (only) at 202-456-1414 and demand that President Bush stop pressuring the conferees to include an extension of 245(i) in the bill. Again, the bill is the Commerce, Justice and State appropriations bill.

Or send a fax to President Bush. The President's fax number is: 202-456-2461.

An extension of 245(i) WOULD PUT OUR COUNTRY AT GREAT RISK! HOW DARE THE PRESIDENT EVEN CONSIDER THIS? WHEN WILL THIS MADNESS END?!

Note: my brother and I married LEGAL immigrants (people who obeyed our laws and waited their turn). This is not anti-immigrant, but pro common sense!

One word for this bill 'INSANITY"

If Bush supports this bill without at least a background check requirement amendment, after being made aware of its security implications; this would constitute evidence that the "War on Terrorism" could be at least in part fabricated, and the terrorists accomplished no more than the U.S. Government allowed them to. This is an additional reason for the importance of assuring that this awareness by President Bush exists. Note that this issue is unimportant from a preparation and outlook standpoint, as the U.S. response could bring about exactly what is allegedly being attacked and feared, as well as other potentially grim geopolitical cascading effects.

Even if passed, a Class of properly legalized immigrants could sue to have this amnesty possibly struck down by the Courts, on grounds of denial of the Equal Protection of the Laws: We had to go through "the mill", so why shouldn't they? The national security implications could distinguish this amnesty from any adverse past case law precedents that may exist.
