Looking for Saw Mill in southwest Michigan

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I recently had several trees damaged and uprooted by storms. I am looking for someone in my area (Augusta, Michigan) who either buys lumber or who would saw the lumber on shares. I have two white pines which had the tops snapped off at my second story roof line. One is about 22 inches in diameter and the other is about 18 inches in diameter. Each one is about 30 feet tall now and there is about 10 to 12 feet from ground level to the first limb. the rest of the trees are mostly hardwood.

Well Micheal, we saw what it did to the pine woods going into Galesburg on 35th street. What a storm huh??

You might take a run up to Fulton....actually on the road from Fulton into Leonadas. There is an Amishman there that has a saw mill right on that road (can't remember the name of it maybe Fulton Road??) There also was a sawmill on M-37 up a little north of Bedford but I am not sure if it is still operating. Hope you find one.

Mike In our area, North Carolina, there is a couple of people with portable band saw sawmills. They will come out and saw the trees right on your property and you don't have to haul the logs. You have to provide the labor to off bare the slabs as they cut the logs in to boards. They charge by the BD. FT.

Hey Diane, Hey Michael! Augusta? Galesburg? You're right in my neighborhood...I'm in Otsego! Micheal, there is a sawmill in Allegan on 26th street. I will see if I can spot an address for you. I was in Schoolcraft yesterday and was astounded by the damage there, and this after a week of cleanup! The loss of those giant trees is just heartbreaking. I hugged my trees when I got home.

Actually Shannon I am in Tekonsha....major damage here also. Had my granddaughter the night of the storm and took shelter in a nearby church. We have a whole little neighborhood with the homes completely destroyed. Saw the damage in Galesburg when I met my daughter there to give her back her daughter. She is living in Grand Rapids. I had heard from a friend in Schoolcraft finally that she had power again.

Hey again!

Metzgers saw mill is on Halbert Road, just off M-37, just north of Battle Creek, phone number (616) 963-3022. We buy slab wood from them to burn. I know at the moment he only has one supplier, but that doesn't mean he won't take wood from someone else! Worth a try...
