Germany: Fear Increases Iodine Tablet SalesDARMSTADT. Fears of a possible terrorist attack on nuclear power plants have led to a dramatic increase in the sale of iodine tablets, a spokeswoman for the pharmaceutical company Merck said on Friday. The drug, which contains 10 milligrams of iodine per pill and should be taken after an atomic catastrophe to protect the thyroid against radiation, are sold out, she said. According to Merck, it is the only company that produces the high-dosage compound. (dpa)
