Too late. You should have asked before you bought it. I would never recommend anyone buy the 3000. But you already have it & it is a step up from the point & shoot you were using. Actually starting out with an SLR camera the 3000 will probably work fine. It's just that it is too limiting in what it will do compared with the 300 or even 500N which only cost a little bit more.

Still, it's what you have and a camera is just a light tight box that holds a shutter, a lens and film. The 3000 will do that just fine and provide a decent built-in light meter as well.

The things that will most effect the quality of your photographs most are, the quality of your skill, the the quality of your film and processing and the the quality of your lens. My advice is to get a photography book or two and study it. It should tell you about composition, exposure and lighting. That's what you need the most.
