batteries draining while camera not in use

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

i have an eos 500 which has started draining new batteries while camera not in use and in lock mode. in the course of a week without use the batteries will be flat. is there any obvious reason why there would be a power leakage while camera apparently not in use ?

This really isn't an answer to your question but I always remove the batteries out of any unit {body, flash, ect.} as soon as I'm done using it. In fact it becomes second nature to just pop them in and out before and after. Never had to worry drain or even cold weather. Hope this helps even though its's not the answer you were looking for.

In Canon EOS cameras, the "L" position just denies shutter release. If any of its buttons are pressed, the CPU "wakes up" and consumes a bit of power (even in "L" position). Perhaps a button is being pressed while the camera is in storage, or perhaps one is stuck in the pressed position.

This same thing happens to my eos 600, however, only since having it damaged by water leaking in. I find taking the batteries out doesnt help any, either. Sorry, not an answer, but if someone else could shed light on it thatd be great
