Chickens now laying green and blue eggs!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We had a thread earlier this week (or last?) about Auracauna chickens laying different colored eggs and I said mine had just started laying, with only one laying pale brown eggs.

Well that very afternoon, Saturday, I went back to the chicken enclosure and there was the prettiest little blue-green egg you've ever seen! She skipped Sunday and then laid another one on Monday!

So now all 20 of my Golden Comets are laying big brown eggs (have been since July) and now my Easter egg chicks are just beginning to lay!

I was as excited about the little colored egg as I was about the first big brown egg the others laid in July!

I know what you mean, new hens/first eggs are like new Christmas gifts to me.

I love having the blue and green eggs. When the grandchildren come for a visit we always have green eggs and ham !! Enjoy !!

One Easter weekend I had friends stop by as I was going out to collect eggs. I brought back in a couple brown eggs and a couple green ones. It never occurred to me that they would think this was some sort of joke. They didn't say anything then, but when the same thing happened some months later we all had a good laugh when I explained that they came out that way!

I love my Aracauna eggs. Some of my hens lay blues and greens and others lay pinkish coral colored eggs. Next spring I think I'll find a Leghorn hen to add white eggs to my basket. May your hens be content and your basket full, Lynnae in NM
