A Sailor's Letter Home This is an e-mail from a young ensign aboard USS Winston Churchill (DDG-81) to his parents. (Churchill is an Arleigh Burke class AEGIS guided missile destroyer, commissioned March 10, 2001, and is the only active US Navy warship named after a foreign national.)

Dear Dad,

We are still at sea. The remainder of our port visits have all been canceled. We have spent every day since the attacks going back and forth within imaginary boxes drawn in the ocean, standing high-security > watches, and trying to make the best of it. We have seen the articles and the photographs, and they are sickening.

Being isolated, I don't think we appreciate the full scope of what is happening back home, but we are definitely feeling the effects. About two hours ago, we were hailed by a German Navy destroyer, Lutjens, requesting permission to pass close by our port side. Strange, since we're in the middle of an empty ocean, but the captain acquiesced and we prepared to render them honors from our bridgewing.

As they were making their approach, our conning officer used binoculars and announced that Lutjens was flying not the German, but the American flag. As she came alongside us, we saw the American flag flying at half-mast and her entire crew topside standing at silent, rigid attention in their dress uniforms. They had made a sign that was displayed on her side that read, 'We Stand By You.' There was not a dry eye on the bridge as they stayed longside us for a few minutes and saluted. It was the most powerful thing I have seen in my life.

The German Navy did an incredible thing for this crew, and it has truly been the highest point in the days since the attacks. It's amazing to think that only a half-century ago things were quite different. After Lutjens pulled away, the Officer of the Deck, who had been planning to get out later this year, turned to me and said, 'I'm staying Navy.'

I'll write you when I know more about when I'll be home, but this is it for now.

This doesn't suprise me at all. The Bush family has a long history of supporting the Nazis. Now that Dubya the fascist is running the show, the Germans are more than happy to join us in the formation of the Fourth Reich. He's also buddying up with the Chi-coms, so it won't be long now before we are living in a military police state.

This happened right after Sept.11. It beautiful, not done by governments, but by the men on the Lutjens, an incredable disply of respsect and empathy. The German's haven't been Natzi's in havlf a century, they are our alies. This had nothing to do with the Bush family, it was a simple, yet deeply meaningful expression which was (and should have been) accepted in the manner it was given.

But Cherri, you have to admit, these Krauts like us a lot better now that they see that Dubya has begun his Crusade for global domination. It brings back fond memories of the days of the Third Reich when they were on a similar quest for power.

They realize this is their chance to see it really happen, and they want a piece of the action. Now that China and Russia are joining our NWO Crusade, the Germans SURE AS HELL don't want to be on the other side.

The Krauts are not exactly known for being sensitive and compassionate. They don't mince words, they say exactly what they mean. Those words mean literally exactly what they say... "We Stand By You" in your Crusade for domination. I hardly think it is an exhibit of "heartfelt" sympathy, coming from some of the most cold-blooded creatures on the planet.

I think in this instance, it was a group of navy people who wanted to show their fellow sailers how they felt. During the cold war, USSR sailers and American sailers would trade gifts "baubles" against each of their government's regulations. These things were not thought up my public relations think tanks, they were done despite the wishes of higher up's. Some things are done by people with no ulterior motive but a respect for other humans. This, I believe, was the case here. I am sure the Government of Germany as well as our own have agenda's they are bent on fullfilling, but not this particular action. As a matter of fact, they probably got in trouble for doing it from their government, simply because it was authorized by their military.
