If 5mins is 200mB then 50mins is 2GB, roughly. That is not so bad for that codec at the resolution you specified. What specific AVI codec is it that was used for capture?? It's important to know this because it is one of the biggest influences (along with other things like HDD size and speed, etc.) that will determine the quantity and quality of your capture. The Ge-Force 2 and 3 can capture a maximum of 704x576 resolution; if you used this res your allowable capture time (all other things being equal) will decrease even more. I ALWAYS capture at maximum resolution (if forced to use codecs other than DV, since the DV AVI codec is fixed at 720x576/480; type 1 DV gives us 9mins for 2GB of HDD space-don't get shocked) and resample/decrease the resolution to my target spec later. Whatever form your intended output file takes quality is always best this way.

If all you want is VCD creation, then MPEG-1 compression is enough. A very useful site is the: http://www.vcdhelper.com/ There you can find infos for all the famous encoders like Tmpeg, Panasonic, Ligos, Xing etc and also precious "how to" roadmaps. You can also E-mail me directly if you need farther assistance in your mother tongue. (Greek I suppose!)
