Aussie holes in Horse Pasture

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I just got my first computer and in sitting here in front of it for the past eight hours straight, have found the website for my favorite magazine! (Don't think I'll find out here why windows XP doesn't like my printer) My husband and I live on 20 acres and have 2 horses and one cat and one 18 month old Austrailian Shepherd, (no papers, he's 1/8 Border Collie) He was neutered at 5 months of age and he is the smartest, sweetest dog we've ever met. The problem is he loves to hunt mice, and when we are not looking he digs up their holes in the horse pasture, making narrow, deep holes that a horse could break a leg in. I fill them in but he just makes others. I don't want to keep him in all the time! Also he tries to herd the horses but to them he is just chasing. Any good trianing videos out there? What to do about the digging?

You could rent your dog to bush he is into making holes.

My collie/aussie is 9 years old with the same bad habits. There has been no training it out of him as the instinct is too strong, so we have arranged our life to accomodate him. We have 5+ cats to help with the rodents and chickens and ducks for him to herd around and a hotwire low on the horsefence to discourage him. The horses don't run from him anymore but he is in danger of getting brained by them.

Hello Debbie AS I understand it Aussies and border collies are bred to herd . A friend had one that herded his chickens from one end of the yard to the other then back . He had to lock the dogs up to keep ffom walking his chickens to death . These dogs like to chase frisbees ,. Maye you could give them exercise that way . Big George

Debbie, about your printer, you might try going to the website of your printer's manufacturer and downloading updated drivers for it.
