Pasta

I went and lost the instruction booklet for my pasta maker. All I need is ingredients and amounts, this is a "Pasta Express" by CTC. Thanks for any help. By the way, if you have any special recipes for fresh pasta I would love to hear them too.

Good luck, Kathy -- I'll be watching this like a hawk -- I bought a Pasta Express at a garage sale for $10 this past summer, thinking what a GREAT deal I was getting -- got it home and realized, not only is the recipe booklet missing, but so is the little measuring cup that is SUPPOSED to come with it.

I went online looking and found a board with other owners of this machine -- seems like I'm not alone. I have two or three people looking out for the missing stuff for me -- if I find it, or get a copy, I'll be happy to share!

Here's some recall info with the company phone number.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 25, 1997 Release # 98-032 CPSC: Jane Francis (301) 504-0580 Ext. 1187

CPSC, Creative Technologies Corp. Announce Recall to Replace Lids on Pasta Machines WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Creative Technologies Corp. of Brooklyn, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 50,000 pasta machines to replace some of their lids. When the safety cutoff switch on the lid does not activate, consumers' fingers can be severely injured if their hand is placed into the mixing bowl.

CPSC and Creative Technologies are aware of 11 incidents of the machine unexpectedly turning on, resulting in nine injuries including cut, crushed and severed fingers.

The lid replacement program involves the Takka Pasta and Dough machine (model X1000), and the Pasta Express machines (models X2000, X3000 and X4000). Only pasta machines that have serial numbers up to 78209 are subject to this replacement program. The model and serial numbers are located on a label on the bottom of the machine. "Pasta Express TM by CTC" or "Takka Pasta and Dough by CTC" is on the front of the machine. The pasta machines are beige or white. Some machines have chrome-plated front panels. Through this voluntary recall, Creative Technologies will provide consumers with a replacement lid.

The machines are sold in cardboard boxes identifying the model of the machine. A photograph of the machine is on the front of the box.

Department stores, mail order catalogs and warehouse clubs nationwide sold the pasta machines from 1989 through 1992 for between $90 and $200.

Consumers should stop using the pasta machines immediately and call Creative Technologies at (800) 449-3040. The company will help consumers determine whether their pasta machine is subject to this replacement program and, if necessary, will provide a free replacement lid.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission protects the public from the unreasonable risk of injury or death from 15,000 types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. To report a dangerous product or a product-related injury and for information on CPSC's fax-on-demand service, call CPSC's hotline at (800) 638-2772 or CPSC's teletypewriter at (800) 638-8270. I bought a Creative Pasta Express automatic pasta machine at a thrift store. I knew it didn't have a recipe book or instruction, but at $4.99 it seemed like a bargain. I thought I could take it home to figure it out. No such luck!!! I am very interested in any recipes for the pasta or directions on how the machine works that anyone can give me. HELP!!

I just used my machine for the first time in a couple years and put the plastic parts on the top part of the dishwasher. Don't do this. They will bend. If you do, you can boil them in water and then reshape them.

Recipes: Pasta with eggs 2 CTC measuring cups flour (I think each CTC cup is 1-2regular cups) 2 eggs 1 tsp salt (optional) 2 tsp olive oil Soak die in hot water and then spray with Pam or olive oil. Assemble. Put flour in machine container mixing area. Put eggs and 2 tsp of oil in CTC and add warm water to line that says water. (I think one total cup) Beat mixture. Place top on machine and switch to mix mode. Add egg mixture slowly - 1/3 at a time. Mixture should be somewhat crumbly - not sticky and not too dry. Switch to extrude position.

I found my book. I can make copies if anyone is interested. The measuring cup is 1 2/3 to 1 3/4 cups. The smaller measure is 3/4 cup. Double the larger measurer for flour and use the smaller for liquid. My pasta machine has one broken gear that will cost $25 plus shipping to replace. Wish I could find one in a thrift shop for $5!

It has all parts, measuring cup, instruction book, dies even a video. I hope it is still valid since my machine just broke this weekend and I need a replacement part.
