Rocksalt and livestock

I was cleaning out the shed and found a very old bag of rocksalt froze together, is this safe to put out for the wildlife?

yep, as long as it doesnt contain any,, "de icer", which I doubt if its clumped up. Or you can take a hammer to it, and use it like usual

rock salt is calcium cloride not sodium cloride and should not be fed to animals .just wait for winter and beat it up with a hammer to melt the road ice in your drive ,i usualy use ammonium nitrate as the de icer of choice here but it has to be kept away from livestock ,i buy a little non mineral loose feeding salt to use wher livesyock might get to it this is the time of year to get some deicing supplys and some sand in a dry location where you can get to it when you need it

Rock salt can cause irritation of an animals paws, mouth and stomach.

the DNR around here actually recommends that people put out ROCK SALT if they feed the deer during the winter,, dont know why you wouldnt be able to feed it to your wildlife,,Ive had deer and coons go into my shed and eat it from the bucket
