Just put black and white film and shoot. Do you have any manual controls at all?

Use something like Ilford XP2 or Kodak TCN400 (chromogenic film processed and printed at a minilab) and don't worry. You'll be delighted.

If you have an APS camera, you can use Kodak's Black and White+.

Yes you can If the camera you use sets exposure by reading the dx code on the film canister, you can "fool" the camera into exposing the film at a different ASA. For example, you may find that the camea underexposes TMAX. You can use metalic and electrical tape to change the contacts on the canister to make the camera think it has an ASA 50 film, thus increasing exposure. CArson Graves gives a list of the codes in his book The Zone System for 35mm Photographers. Others on this forum may be able to point you to a source of information on the internet. I don't know if it works for all point and shoot cameras or how much you can actually change the cameras exposure settings. I have never done it myself but am passing along what I read in the above mentioned book.
