4-H club needs a name!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I am becoming involved as an advisor to a new 4-H club. Last night was our first meeting and we were trying to think up a neat name. Does anyone have any ideas, or names of clubs you know of or are involved with? Two that we have in mind are: Centerville Country Buddies, or Centerville Country Friends. But none of the kids were really thrilled with these! So I thought I would get some ideas from everyone to take to our next meeting.

This would be a lot easier to answer if we knew as much about your area as you do. Things like what are the major crops? Is this a horse area? Is it flat or hilly? What age kids? Boys and girls? I think your question is too general for us to form an answer without a couple of pages of info.

The area is probaly much like yours Mitch. I live just across the river from Wheeling WV, and the area is hilly, many people have dairy farms, horses and live in the country. The club is boys and girls mixed ages 9 to 18. If anyone has any ideas in general I'm sure I could present them to the children and they will do a good job of narrowing them down themselves. Thanks!

Did you all know that 4-H isn't just about animals any longer? There are dozens of projects including all sorts of sewing, cooking, health and fitness, photography, art, music, wood-working, welding. nature and the list goes on and on!!!

Our 4H club was science/nature oriented. We were the Explorers. Some others in this area are: Mustangs, Wildcats, Friend Finders, Kids plus kids, Sharks, Friendly Nay-bors (a horse club obviously). I can't think of any others right now. My kids aren't in 4H right now. We just moved here and are still trying to get our bearings. This county is much more relaxed than the one from which we moved.

I'll think about a name, but in the mean time, what age will your 4-H group lets kids join. My son will be 6 at the end of December and is just dieing to get involed. He doesn't understand here you have to be 7 years by August!

For the regular club you must be 9 or in third grade. The new year starts in October. We will also be having a Cloverbuds club for the younger kids. Most of these are younger brothers and sisters, to officially belong you must be 5, but sometimes the littler kids( 3 or 4) will do the craft projects and participate too! We don't want to discourage anyone and we have the greatest group of parents working on this club. It is going to be an exciting new year for us!

If the region is hilly you have "Hilltoppers" or "Mountaineers" going for you. If you're into alliteration, you could use "Centerville Country Climbers" and have a 3-C logo.
