Gasoline Prices in your area?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Is everyone else on this forum being amaze by falling gas prices like I am? After the 1 day $5.00 a gallon rush 40 days ago (Where fear once again struck the weak minded)we now have gas at $1.00 a gallon here in around Michigan. Are the oil sheiks really being friendly to us or just using the war on terrorists as a way to fatten us up for the kill later? I think it would be wise to consider buying a few storage tanks for the homestead and maybe getting a few hundred gallons.

$1.17 here in Central Florida for Regular Unleaded.

-- Mark in N.C. Fla. (deadgoatman@webtv.net), October 21, 2001.

It's 69 cents a litre here in northern Ontario. By my calculations that's $1.66 a US gallon. My husband says the current price is down a little bit over what it has been. Can you tell I never drive / fill the car?

-- Rheba (rhebabeall@hotmail.com), October 21, 2001.

That's $1.66 US a gallon...$0.69 CDN a litre....sorry

-- Rheba (rhebabeall@hotmail.com), October 21, 2001.

I saw $1.03 during the week but closer to $1.10 over the weekend. As to the reasons, summer is over and fewer people are driving and many have limited travel since 9-11 so supply is up and prices are down.

-- Gary in Indiana (gk6854@aol.com), October 21, 2001.

i filled up yesterday for $1 a gallon, most places at $1.02 to $1.05 or so.

by the way, i was at the flea market saturday, i have NEVER seen it so crowded before. every vendor space was rented, gazallions of everything from A-Z for sale, including small farm animals, food, clothing, etc etc, and the buyers were as thick as politicians around a fresh pork barrel.

I'm not particularly amazed. Summer is over and fewer people are driving and many have limited travel since 9-11 so supply is up and prices are down. As to prices, I saw $1.03 during the week but closer to $1.10 over the weekend. On average, I find Wednesday to be the lowest price day of the week. It's after people have filled up from their weekend and before they fill up for the next one. I hope this helps.

-- Gary in Indiana (gk6854@aol.com), October 21, 2001.

The station I frequent is down to 1.09 and the attendent said we should se .98 a gallon next week.

-- Jay Blair in N. AL (jayblair67@yahoo.com), October 21, 2001.

It's a $1.32 up here in Northern WI.

-- Jean (jat@ncis.net), October 21, 2001.

Lowest I have seen it here is $1.47. (remember..I live in Calif!!) but that is 22 cents cheaper than it was a month ago!!!!!!

-- Jenny (auntjenny6@aol.com), October 21, 2001.

$1.37 VT

-- pc (pcha@ludl.tds.net), October 21, 2001.

$1.09 here in southern Indiana. yes summer is over but I also think the gooberment has told the gas gods to chill for a while to help keep us from going inot a panic while we hunt out the bad guys

-- grant (organicgrange@yahoo.com), October 21, 2001.

It was $1.35 here in Eastern/Central Washington

-- Ron (Ron@Verizon.com), October 21, 2001.

$1.34 a gal north cental WI-Go Pack

-- D.Smith (duckthis1@maqs.net), October 22, 2001.

$1.07 in South Mississippi. Don't look for it to go much cheaper before it goes sky high. DH works for oil company, and it has been our experience, when the oil drilling slows, the gas prices rocket. I have 2 brothers who work for 2 other oil companies, and the all are capping rigs and shutting down drilling. There are actually layoffs. Go figure!

-- Bear (BarelyKnow@aol.com), October 22, 2001.

Here in Missouri it is 99cents in Springfield and here just east of Springfield it is $1.02 per gallon dale

-- dale (dgarr@fidnet.com), October 22, 2001.

The oilfield work is drying up here in South Texas as well. Hubby is a consultant, so income has stopped.

Why is the fuel price low? Supply exceeds demand. When you take that many flights out of the sky, you make something other than jet fuel from the crude. Too much gasoline on the market.

-- Rose (open_rose@hotmail.com), October 22, 2001.

I filled up at $1.03 per gallon for regular unleaded in Collinsville, Virginia.

-- Judy in North Carolina (mpjprus@bellsouth.net), October 22, 2001.

The world economy is in a recession and gas usage is down dramatically. As Rose said, it is just a matter of supply and demand.

-- Joe (CactusJoe001@AOL.com), October 22, 2001.

Been under $1.10 for the last couple of weeks. Saw it this weekend at $1.05.

-- Gary (gws@redbird.net), October 22, 2001.

.96 cents per gallon. . . went into shock this morning. I put in 28 gallons of gas into a 40 gallon tank and actually spent less than 30.00 bucks! Yeah, bring it on! Now how about some free road maps?

-- j.r. guerra (jrguerra@boultinghousesimpson.com), October 22, 2001.

$1.40 in Northeast Connecticut

-- Glenn (gj_usa1@yahoo.com), October 22, 2001.

In the Richmond VA area this morning .97

-- Bruce Burdge (comfreybruce@richmond.com), October 22, 2001.

Rush Limbaugh and his cronies like to tell us how much the rich have done for us. Here is an example of what the rich and consumer demand do for us: keep gasoline prices high. When they drop back on their plane rides and pleasure trips, demand falls and the prices drop.

-- fred (fred@mddc.com), October 22, 2001.

South central Texas ~ 89¢ to 99¢/gallon, depending on the station.

-- ~Rogo (rogo2020@yahoo.com), October 22, 2001.

Thanks for all your responses!!!!!!!! I am going to print this out in a few days and save it for future references. I myself personally do not believe that these prices are just because travel is down, because you look on the expressway I travel on in the mornings and it is bumper to bumper to bumper and on Friday evenings the same expressway is packed with people going up north for the weekend. Maybe because I live in between 2 big Univerisity towns the econony has not bother this area much, alot of professors, teachers, doctors and such. I just know that I don't see any recession.

-- TomK(mich) (tjk@cac.net), October 22, 2001.

Well shucks, I forgot to mention that I live in deep south Texas. Man, I am getting forgetful as time goes on.

-- j.r. guerra (jrguerra@boultinghousesimpson.com), October 22, 2001.

It was down to $1.39 this morning here!!

-- Jenny (auntjenny6@aol.com), October 22, 2001.

Seeing $1.09 in the NE edge of Indiana up to 1.15 in our far NW corner of Ohio.

-- Terry - NW Ohio (aunt_tm@hotmail.com), October 22, 2001.

$1.08 here in NC.

TomK I agree it may very well be time to store up that little extra fuel. If something goes wrong in this "different kind of war){gwb}" then some very well placed bombs could see that $5 a gallon right back in our faces.

Whew hope thats spelled right Eyes are still a little dilated.

-- Kenneth in N.C. (wizardsplace13@hotmail.com), October 22, 2001.

Kenneth in N.C., Thats excatly what I was talking about on getting some storage tanks and stocking up on gas while its at this price. You are the only one so far thats even mention doing anything like it. To me a true homesteader with the capabilites to store gasoline would be jumping at this opportunity. Even if gas go's up $.30 you multiply that by let say 300 gallons and you are saving yourself $90.00 which I guess for some people on this forum is not alot to worry about. But if it go's to $3.00 a gallon you saved $900.00 and that is something to think about big time.

-- TomK(mich) (tjk@cac.net), October 22, 2001.

The local Mobil is down to $1.38 for regular. I August, it was as high as $1.69. (Upstate NT).

-- Cheri Asprion (t.asprion@worldnet.att.net), October 22, 2001.

Ummm...make that upstate NY. Time for more chocolate to wake me up :- )

-- Cheri Asprion (t.asprion@worldnet.att.net), October 22, 2001.

$1.39 is the cheapest I've seen in King County, WA.(Seattle).

-- larry (karlog@rocketmail.com), October 22, 2001.

$1.229 here, and I think this is one of the cheaper areas in Wisconsin. I know it's higher up north in my childhood home area, and certainly higher over near Milwaukee. Why is ALL of Wisconsin so much higher than, say, Michigan? It's just the next state over. I never can figure that out!

-- Joy F [in So. Wisconsin] (CatFlunky@excite.com), October 23, 2001.

Gas prices have come down but having read through the preceding posts boy am I getting ripped off!!! We are down to $1.55 in my corner of southwest Oregon.

Paid $1.49 in Portland, $1.41 in the Eugene area two days ago and $1.42 in Medford yesterday. - for those of you that don't know Oregon those are the major population centers along the I-5 coridor running north to south. The prices just don't make sense.

-- Jane (Southwest OR) (jwagman@mail.com), October 27, 2001.

$1.60 (!) @ Chevron in Waldport, central Oregon coast. People often drive 16 miles North, Hwy 101, to Newport, just to gas up.

griff(Oregon)

-- D.Griff (dggriff@hotmail.com), October 27, 2001.

$1.06 this Friday Hey TomK stored a little :o) up for the hard times.

I can't help but think that before Christmas we'll see gas bounce back up to an all time high. Hope not, but all I've read and heard seems to point in that direction.
