MIAMI -- American Classic Voyages Inc., the largest U.S.-flag cruise company and the owner of the Delta Queen vessels, filed for bankruptcy reorganization Friday.

The company said that its business has been devastated by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The move will put 2,150 poeple out of work. The company said that four of the five Delta Queen vessels -- the American Queen, the Mississippi Queen, the Columbia Queen and the Cape May Light -- will cease operations at the end of their current cruises. That will happen within the next three days.

For now, only the Delta Queen -- the company's National Historic Landmark flagship -- will continue cruising.

American Classic Voyages also said that its two Hawaiian tour vessels -- the Patriot and Independence -- will shut down on Saturday at the end of their current cruises.
